Marissa "Moe Joe" Joseph
Marissa “MoeJoe,” Joseph is a New Iberia, Louisiana native who labels herself and dance style as Afro-Creole specializing in the areas of folk/street dance. She is a performer, teacher, dance fitness leader and culture entrepreneur who advocates the southern and Creole experience of music/dance through her dance fitness exercise, Bounce Fitness w/MoeJoe.As a youth, Marissa was involved in dance and graduated from her dance school, Jill Listi in Lafayette, La., but the City of New Orleans cultivated her art and vision for deeper cultural purpose. She’s been a frequent performer at Jazz Fest, Bayou Boogaloo, and French Quarter Festival. She’s a funk dancer and crowd mover for New Orleans homegrown funky and rare groove deejay, DJ Soul Sister and worked alongside film director Dan Pritzker on the Bolden film (2015). In 2015, she took a leap and joined the African circus, Cirque Zuma Zuma as a dancer/singer/percussionist. When not performing she trains with her mentor, Ivory Coast Master/Percussionist, Seguenon Kone.Her goal is to use dancing as a way to educate and share culture immersion, while empowering people through movement healing, exploring self-identity and reclaiming self-confidence.Enjoy the virtual MoeJoe Spot and feel free to reach out if you have any questions about classes, choreography, education seminars/workshops, conventions, parties and group events.
